Obituary for Alan Gordon Verch

It is with great sadness the family of Alan Verch announces the unexpected passing of their husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather on January 30, 2022 in his 72nd year. Alan is survived by his loving wife Karen of 22 years. Beloved father to Charlene (Mike), James, Jocelyn (Rocky) and Joel. Proud grandpa to Michaela, Sydney, Morgan, Andrew, Lauren, Alexander, Kalista, Ashley, Kaitlynn (Brandon) and great grandpa to Haylee and baby Firlotte (May 2022). Alan will always be remembered by his siblings Merrill (Bonnie), Linda (Peter), Dianne and his sister in-law “SIL” Kim (Ken). He was predeceased by his first wife Donna (1992), his parents Gordon and Francis, as well as his brothers Donnie (the late Susan) and Erwin (the late Sharon). Alan will be dearly missed by his father in-law Doug Clark, his “Special Fishing Buddy”, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Born and raised in the Ottawa Valley, Alan spent many years hunting, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. Many hours were spent on Mink Lake trolling for pickerel and spending time with family reminiscing around the campfire. He always enjoyed making his way to the hunt camp where he spent so much quality time with his son, son in-laws, grandchildren and brothers. He was the hub of the family, never missing an opportunity to spend time making memories. He was a very talented painter, turning many houses into homes. He had the amazing ability to transform any room he painted into the perfect space. He will be fondly remembered by any who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Professional arrangements entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville. As per Alan’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters or the Ottawa Heart Institute in his memory.

If I could come back for just one day,
I know exactly what I would say.
To my family and friends and those who I loved,
As a message from God who speaks from above.

I would say it’s okay to be sad for a while,
But what I really want most is to see your smile.
And for you to go on and live once again,
Allowing the Lord to comfort your pain.

I know that you loved me with all of your heart,
And that none of you wanted for me to depart.
I don’t quite understand it myself,
But I know you’ll get by with a little help.

Yes, I would say to be sad for a day,
And to do what you need to do.
And then lift up your eyes,
To the wonder of the sky,
And know that I loved you too.
