Obituary for Claire MacDougall (Ryan)

It is with great sadness that the family of Claire (Ryan) MacDougall announce her passing in Almonte General Hospital, on May 15, 2021, at the age of 80. Claire was born February 7, 1941 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. She was dearly loved and will be missed by daughter and son-in-law, Liane and Randy Tackaberry of Kingston, granddaughter Monika Tackaberry and partner Michael Johnson of Ottawa. Loved by son Rod (Caroline) MacDougall of Deep River, their daughters Katrina of Germany and Valerie of Toronto. Also loved and missed by brother and sister-in-law Terry and Colleen Ryan of Oshawa as well as many nieces, nephews and their families in Oshawa and throughout the Ottawa Valley. Claire was predeceased by her parents Tom and Bertha (Ramsay) Ryan and siblings, Paul (Muriel) Ryan, Ellen (Roman Krysinski) and Jean Brown.

Mom spent her childhood on a farm near Foymount and moved to Pembroke to attend highschool. She lived in Sudbury, Oakville, Belleville and Kingston before returning to the valley in 2017, living in Renfrew for a few years before moving to her final home at Orchard View by the Mississippi Retirement community in Almonte, Ontario.

In her youth, Mom worked at Atomic Energy in Deep River before marrying and settling in Oakville where she had children and sold real estate. She moved to Belleville in 1977 where she was part owner of a hotel and was instrumental in starting the Meals on Wheels program as the Director of Community Care for Seniors. She then worked in the family courts for the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services for over 20 years before retiring in the early 2000’s.

Mom was a strong willed, independent woman who loved her dog Molly, gardening, travelling, singing and dancing, and gave painting her best shot. She loved visits from and imparting pearls of wisdom to her much loved granddaughter Monika.

"There is one thing that Alzheimers cannot take away and that is love. Love is not a memory - it’s a feeling that resides in your heart and soul."

Due to Covid restrictions, Claire will be cremated and a funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew. In lieu of flowers donations to the Renfrew and Area Seniors Home Support would be appreciated.
