Obituary for Gerald Donald Rose

With sadness, Gerry’s family announces that he passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2022 at the age of 76. Gerry was the much loved husband of 50+ years of the late Donna (nee Wilkie).

He is survived by his children Alana (Paul), Tamara (Chuck) and Steven; his grandchildren Nickolas, Anthony (Kirsten) and Brittany (Dan); his great grandchildren Elliot, William, Isabell and Taylynn; his sister Beverly (Gerry); his sisters-in-law Manetta Hogan, Florence Schruder and Evon Leach; his brothers-in-law Albert Wilkie and Wesley Stuber, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Delbert and Pearl Rose of Haley Station.

Gerry’s Military Service began at age 16 and spanned 24+ years, with postings to:
RC Sigs, Vimy Barracks – 5 Sqdn E-38,(Soldier Apprentice as a 16-year old) (1962-64)
Base Petawawa (1964-65), Ottawa Wireless/CFS Leitrim (1965-70), (1984-85) Alert Wireless/CFS Alert (1966, 1968/1969, 1972, 1977, 1981, 1985). He was an original “291er”, fitting in Alert at the Communicator Research creation on Oct 1, 1966; CFS Inuvik (1970-1974), (1977-1980), CFS Masset (1974-77) CFS Carp (1980-1983), (1985-1986). He attended CFLS Ottawa – Russian Language Training (1983-84). Gerry retired from the military on Dec 24, 1986. He spent the following 26 years working with the Civil Service (DSS, PWGSC) in Ottawa-Hull, retiring on Dec 28, 2013. He and Donna enjoyed spending time together, visiting with their children and grandchildren and making the odd “tour to Ottawa”.

Professional arrangements entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Gerry's life will be held on Sunday, June 12th from 1:00-4:00pm at the Arnprior Legion (Branch 174). If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute.
