Peacefully at Hospice Renfrew on Tuesday May 25, 2021 at the age of 81.

Gertie Bernadette Doucette. Predeceased by her husband Douglas. Loving mother of Judy, Doug, Greg (Marjorie), Mark (Carolyn), Catherine (Michael). Predeceased by her son Andy. “Nanny” will be greatly missed by Sherry, Brian, Tyler and Allison. Great Nanny to Nathan and Bailey. She leaves behind her beloved cat, Willy.

60+ years ago, Doug and Gert embarked on their journey to start a life in the Ottawa Valley. They left their roots in Nova Scotia and settled into the town of Renfrew. This led them to establish a small red chip truck known as “Mr. Chips”. Together, they enjoyed many years of hockey, girl guides and volunteering in the community. We as a family are extremely proud of their hard work, endless support and love over the years. They will be deeply missed. We find comfort in knowing they are now reunited and enjoying a Cape Breton kitchen party with all the fiddles and pipes.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Pinard, Morgan Delarge, and Hospice Renfrew for their care and compassion during mom’s time of need.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Zohr Family Funeral Home. Those wishing to show an expression of sympathy may donate to Renfrew Hospice. Tributes condolences and donations can be made online at

Dear Judy , Doug , Mark and Catherine. Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your mom. I have known your mom and dad and all of you for many years since I chummed around with Andy .
I am saddened to see this obituary. Your mom always accepted me into her home no matter how much trouble Andy and I got into way back when.
Your mom meant a lot to me and many others too. Take care Dan

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Gertie. Condolences to Cathy, Mark and all the family. Our family has many fond memories of the Doucette family from the 1980's on Airth Boulevard. She was a second mother to many who just needed a hug, or a kind ear to listen to a story or a little snack to eat. Gertie and Doug's home had an open door--she had a heart of gold. Rest in Peace, Gertie.
