Obituary for Rev. Jim Carson

Reverend James Brian ‘Jim’ Carson breathed his last the evening of December 21, 2022 at Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke, after a seven-year battle with Lewy Body Disease. His passing is mourned by his loving wife of 49 years, Lois (née Hartwig) and three children and their families: Matthew & Geinene, Rebekah & Holger and Rachel & Jeff. Jim is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Elizabeth Margaret. He is survived by siblings Joyce (Phil) and Don (Joy), as well as grandchildren Cairo and Haven; Joshua and Faye; Tessa, CJ, and Bryce.

Jim spent his early years in Drummondville, QC and grew to adulthood in Hull, QC. He lived the life of a pastor, caring for the congregations of O’Connor Conmee Fellowship Baptist in Kakabeka Falls, ON, Église Baptiste de Montréal Nord and Grace Evangelical in Killaloe, Ontario. Even during a 15-year career in IT and while working in French-English translation, pastoring was always his primary motivation, whether it was offering hospitality with Lois, teaching Bible classes or meeting with hurting people.

Jim had a life-time passion for music. He loved playing hymns, ragtime and the occasional classical piece. He taught each of his children piano and enjoyed playing duets with them. He delighted the staff and residents of Mirimachi Lodge with his playing, right until his final months.

Jim had a flare for adventure. In his 20s he toured much of North America on motorbike. Many winters he’d make forest trails by snowshoe. Summers involved taking his family camping, hiking and canoeing.

Jim is dearly missed by his family and the many lives he touched. But we are comforted to know his suffering is done and his hope fulfilled of a life with Jesus.
