Obituary for Ann Reinke

Margaret “Ann” Reinke (nee Butler) passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19 at Renfrew Victoria Hospital with friends and family by her side. She was 78.

Wife of the late Gerry Reinke and cherished mother of Stephen (Brian Jones) of Chicago, Greg “R.G.” of Pembroke, Andrea (Rodger Sadler) of Ottawa, and Philip of Eganville. Beloved and proud grandmother to Siobhan, Isabelle and Emmett Sadler.

Ann spent most of her life in Eganville, but lived in Buckingham, Quebec and Ottawa in her early years. Daughter of the late Dan and Evelyn Butler, she is survived by siblings Mary Chenier (Bernie), John Butler (Cheryl), Brian Butler (Lonelle), and BettyClare Farr (Bryan). Predeceased by David and Cathy.

Ann had a special place in her heart for Treena Hein and her great aunt Myrtle Reinke, who was like a second mother to her.

Ann was deeply loved and respected by friends and family and throughout the community. She was also an astute business person who made running a hardware store seem like an easy and natural thing to do. (As a woman, in the 1980s, it most assuredly was not.) Ann started managing Reinke’s Home Hardware when Gerry became ill with cancer. Not only did she keep the business running after losing Gerry, she improved it and thrived as a community leader.

Ann was a ridiculously proud and loving grandmother. When her grandchildren lived in New York State, Ann wouldn’t hesitate to drive the 8+ hours alone or with friends and family to visit or babysit. She was great fun on road trips.

After retiring and selling the store, Ann remained active in the community. She was a member of the Red Hats and enjoyed serving on the board of the Food Bank and volunteering for the Christmas toy giveaway. Ann was also an extremely loyal friend and confidante to many people who will miss her generous spirit.

The family would like to thank Dr. Moeck, nurse practitioner Kathy O’Connor, and Ann’s palliative care team: Brigitte, Melody, Caitlyn and the PSWs. Thanks also to Grace at Renfrew Victoria Hospital. And a special thank you to Wendy, Heather, Madeline and all of Ann’s amazing friends. (Apologies to anyone who’s name is omitted, please know your help was appreciated!)

Ann's final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville where visitation will be held on Thursday December 23, 2021 from 10:30am - 1:30pm. A Funeral Service at Grace Lutheran Church, Eganville at 2pm.
