March 2, 1932 - January 25, 2023
Passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimers on January 25, 2023 at Bonnechere Manor.
Mel is predeceased by his wife Joan Blimkie (1994). Fondly remembered by his children David (Maureen), Steven (Kimberly), Alan (Katherine) and Kim. Proud Grandpa Mel to Rebecca (Matthew), Travis, the late Mitchell (2002), Kristopher (Emily), Briana (Greg), Justine (Phil), Kaitlyn and Abigail, as well as great grandpa to Elliott, Adaline, Charlotte, Evelyn, Elise and August. Dear brother of Lawrence (Yvette), Melba (late Boyd), Ruth (Fred), Carol, Gail (late Ron) and the late Raymond (1953). Mel is predeceased by his parents Patrick and Clare Blimkie. He will be forever missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to Dr. Pinard and all the staff at the Bonnechere Manor who cared for Mel in his years there.
Professional arrangements entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew, where visitation will take place on Sunday, January 29 from 3:00-6:00pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, January 30 from 10-10:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 11:00am. Spring interment St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Bonnechere Manor Foundation or the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
