Obituary for Nancy Ann Birch (Hunter)

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Nancy Ann Birch after a 25+ year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Nancy passed away peacefully on Saturday March 19th, 2022 at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital at the age of 63.

Wife of the late Ken Birch and mother to Christopher and Scott Birch. Survived by siblings Bernice Reid (Terry), Danny Hunter (Marina), Susan Kunopaski (Terry), Tommy Hunter (Leigh) and Laurie Lambert (Doug).

Predeceased by parents Bert and Irene Hunter.

Stepmother to Brad (Joanna), Jeff (Jenna) and Russel Birch. Step grandmother to Cassandra, Makayla, Evan, Wilfrid, Hudson and Gibson.

A very special godmother and aunt to Kelsey Nancy Ann who was named after Nancy and could always make her laugh.

Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was born in Renfrew on October 28th, 1958. She graduated from nursing in 1978 and moved to Vancouver to start her career where she worked at the Vancouver General Hospital and met her husband, Ken. In 1986, she moved back home to Renfrew with Ken and baby Christopher. In 1989, Scott was born in Renfrew. Every year after Ken’s passing, she would travel west to visit family and enjoy the mountains. Many special memories were made during these trips.

Nancy was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1997 and fought extremely hard to remain working as a nurse and keeping her independence. She worked at Groves Park Lodge in Renfrew for 33 years and loved her job providing care to hundreds of residents.

A special thank you to all of her close friends and family that assisted her over the last number of years. She was very grateful for your help and friendship.

Professional arrangements entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew where visitation will be held on Tuesday March 29th, 2022 from 11:30am-1:00pm, with a memorial service following in the Zohr Family Chapel at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the arthritis society of Canada. Tributes, condolences and donations may be made online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com.
