The family of Doug Ferguson are heartbroken to announce the death of Doug (formal name Robert
Douglas). Doug passed peacefully listening to Johnny Cash on the evening of December 19th, 2022. Doug was
predeceased by his parents Robert and Doris (Bell) Ferguson. He is survived by his sisters Phyllis (Barrie
Salter) Fraser and Marilyn (Roland) Kewley. His children Christine (Neil) Caldwell, Bill (My Lan) Ferguson
and Charlene Ferguson, his grandchildren Megan (Zack Keen), Claire, Daniel, Keira, and Lana.
Doug was born August 5th, 1941 and lived on the family farm where he made his living as a beef farmer
until his health issues made it impossible for him to live there anymore. Doug’s children were the ninth
and last generation to live on the farm that he lovingly maintained as long as he could. Doug was a
talented handyman who could fix anything. He loved the outdoors. He loved animals and had many
interesting pets over the years- raccoons, groundhogs, guinea hens, parrots, and love birds to name
some of the more interesting. He will now be able to hug his favourite animal again – his beloved pug
Spike who was a companion to him for many years when he had to move into town due to his back
injury. In his younger years he loved his motorcycle and making friends on the CB radio. He could talk
to anyone.
Doug had to spend the last few years at the Bonnechere Manor as an injury he received on the farm
many years ago took its toll on him and he could no longer live on his own. He was able to pass his time
there lovingly teasing the staff who got used to his interesting sense of humour and the nicknames he
gave to everyone. They learned quickly like his friends and family knew already- the more you teased or
joked back the more he liked you.
Thank you to the staff on HM2 at the Bonnechere Manor for the wonderful care our brother, father and
grandfather received. You all helped to make Doug's last few years as comfortable as possible.
Professional arrangements entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew. Following Doug's wishes services will remain private. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the following charities that helped make Dad’s final years a little easier: the Bonnechere Manor Foundation, Sunshine Coach or Renfrew and Area Seniors Home Support Meals on Wheels program.
He will live in your blood
And in mine.
