Obituary for Salme Marjatta Jormakka

Salme left this world peacefully in her 82nd year on November 1, 2022, in Eganville, Ontario. Born in Leppäkoski, Finland to Tyyne (Salonen) and Iivari Jormakka. Salme moved with her mother and brother, Veikko, to Canada after Iivari’s tragic death. Salme stayed connected with friends and family members who remained and was very proud of her Finnish heritage. She spoke Finnish fluently and enjoyed opportunities to converse with other fellow “Finns”. Salme was a person of faith and a member of the Lutheran Church. Through her charitable donations to causes such as WWF and PETA as well as her many pampered pets through the years, Salme demonstrated unlimited empathy, love and kindness toward animals. Among the family members who mourn Salme’s loss are her daughter, Wendy (Glen), her grandsons Mark and Steven, her brother Veikko (Natalie), cousin Risto (Arja), nieces Denise (Mark) and Jodie (Joe) as well as nephew Jerry (Christine). She will be missed by her dear, long-time friend, Carol. A heartfelt thank you to Rich, Dennis, Wanita, Tamara, Stephanie, Holly, Hillary, Melody, Deborah, and others who supported Salme's wish to remain at home. Their friendship, kindness and care for Salme are greatly appreciated. Thank you to Renfrew County Paramedics as well. Professional services have been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville. A celebration of Salme’s life will be held in Hamilton at a future date. Salme gave generously to many causes close to her heart, including the Canadian Red Cross, the Canadian Cancer Society, WWF, PETA, the Arthritis Society and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Memorial contributions may be made in Salme’s name to any of these organizations online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com
