In her 84th year at Hospice Renfrew on Thursday, January 13, 2022. Shirley passed away peacefully, just as she lived her life, after a 49-day battle with cancer. She was a gentle and quiet person, kind-hearted and caring who made her house and yard a home anyone would be happy to come home to. Everything she did was done neatly and with care to detail. She seldom raised her voice in anger towards anyone and lived harmoniously through 37 years of marriage.
After a 33-year teaching career at Eganville District Public School, mostly Grade 1, she retired in 1995. Many former students would often compliment her and regarded her as their favourite teacher. She was an excellent example of positive student-parent-teacher relations.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Lorne and Myrtle Schmeling. She is survived by her husband, Zig, daughter Julie, son Jeff (Krista), and grandchildren, Harleigh and Brittany, and stepsons Mark and Matthew.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment in Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
